Alghero Excursion.

From Alghero, we head for Fertilia, a red-trachyte hamlet built in 1936 with a view to diffusing social tensions in the area around Ferrara. In the post-war period, the hamlet was populated by exiles from Istria and Dalmatia and was dedicated to Saint Mark. Appropriately enough, in the centre of the panoramic viewpoint, there lies a winged lion, the Saint´s symbol. From Fertilia, we make our way to the Capo Caccia promontory, passing through the so-called ´Nuraghe´ at Palmavera. This complex, made from limestone and sandstone, was constructed during the Nuragic period and includes two towers built at different times but linked by a wall, as well as an external meeting place, a rampart and a Nuragic village with around 50 shelters. Shortly before reaching the promontory of Capo Caccia, we shall pause briefly to admire the spectacular island of Foradada, whose name come from the elongated cave that lies at sea level. Capo Caccia is a rocky limestone spur that rises to a height of 168 metres at the edge of Porto Conte. Taking the 656 steps of the famous ´Escala del Cabirol´, we come to the entrance to the Grotte di Nettuno (´Neptune´s Caves´), where the guided tour begins.
Once the tour of the caves has ended, we depart for the Mugoni pine forest, situated in the Gulf of Porto Conte, which the Romans called ´Portus Ninpharum´ and which is the only natural harbour in Sardinia. You will marvel at the untainted coastline and the beautiful beach at Mugoni.
Here, on the beach, in the shade of the eucalyptus trees and maritime pines, we shall await our chefs, who - with great passion and dedication - will serve up a rich array of grilled fish or meats.
After lunch, we shall return to Alghero, passing through Maristella and the delightful beaches named ´Lazzaretto´ and ´Le Bombarde´.
P.M.
Here, at dusk, caressed by the perfumes of Mediterranean maquis, eucalyptus trees and maritime pines, we shall await our chefs, who - with great passion and dedication - will serve up a rich array of grilled fish or meats.
After dinner, we return to Alghero.
